In the fast-paced world of project management and construction management, having a seasoned expert at the helm can make all the difference. We had the opportunity to sit down with Jason White, the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of RE Management Solutions (REMS), to discuss his journey, the company’s culture, and his insights on successful project management. With over two decades of experience, Jason’s perspectives offer invaluable guidance for those in the industry.

From Exelon to REMS: A Journey of Opportunity

Jason White’s path to becoming the CSO of REMS is a testament to the power of networking and right-timing. After spending 21 years at Exelon Corporation, Jason found himself in a unique position. He had built a robust relationship with Efe Halici, REMS’ founder and CEO, during his time managing corporate real estate projects at Exelon.

“I was kind of just doing my own thing for about four months or so, and I talked with Efe right after I left T. Rowe Price. He said, ‘Let’s keep in touch because if you’re interested in coming over, I’d love to have you.’ It wasn’t a conventional interview; it was more of an organic process.”

Jason’s transition to REMS highlights the importance of relationship-building in the real estate consulting and project management industry, a theme that recurs throughout his professional narrative.

A Day in the Life of a CSO

As the CSO, Jason’s day is a blend of strategic planning, client relationship management, and hands-on project oversight. His role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities, reflecting the dynamic nature of REMS’ owner rep project management services.

“A typical day for me includes working on business development objectives, diversifying our client base, networking, and reaching out to potential clients. Additionally, I oversee various projects, ensuring that budgets, scopes, and schedules are aligned.”

Jason’s ability to juggle these diverse tasks underscores the versatility required in senior management roles within commercial real estate and construction services.

The REMS Culture: Work Hard, Enjoy the Process

REMS prides itself on a culture that balances hard work with a positive and inclusive environment. According to Jason, this balance is crucial for maintaining team morale and ensuring project success.

“We’re here to work hard, but we’re also here to have a good time and enjoy the work. Nobody wants to be sitting in a job where it’s like, ‘This sucks.’ Our culture is relationship-oriented, agile, collaborative, empathetic, transparent, and inclusive.”

This culture not only makes REMS a great place to work but also enhances their project management  services to clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Success in Project Management: Key Components

When it comes to successful project management and construction management, Jason emphasizes the importance of transparent communication and accountability.

“Transparent communication with the client is the most critical component. You’ve got to be able to tell them what’s going on in a clear, concise manner so they can understand the full picture and make informed decisions.”

He also stresses the importance of having standardized processes and being able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, leveraging his extensive experience from Exelon and other large corporations.

Looking Ahead: Goals and Growth

Jason’s vision for REMS includes diversifying their client base and continuing to build on their reputation for excellence in Baltimore project management and the broader Mid-Atlantic project management region.

“The main goal is to diversify our customer base. We’ve been very fortunate with Exelon, but we’re working on expanding our reach. This is a key part of our business development strategy.”

With strong leads and a dedicated team, Jason is optimistic about the future growth of REMS, particularly in regions like DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Advice for Aspiring Project Managers

For those looking to break into the field of project management, Jason offers practical advice based on his extensive experience.

“If you’re interested in project management, work towards that PMP certification. Networking is also critical. Whether it’s within your company, outside your company, or through your client network, continue to grow that network.”

Conclusion

Jason White’s journey and insights provide a valuable blueprint for success in the real estate consulting and construction management industry. Under his strategic leadership, REMS is poised for continued growth and success, setting a high standard for project management in Baltimore, Maryland, and the broader Mid-Atlantic region.

By focusing on these key areas, Jason White and REMS demonstrate the critical components of successful project management and the importance of a strong, adaptable team culture.
